Prestigious Commercial Real Estate Award Goes to Culver City’s First LEED-NC Platinum Project

Servicon Systems Inc., a leading provider of sustainable maintenance services for aerospace, military, commercial, public and institutional facilities, has announced that its cutting-edge Mahdesian Learning Center & Client Innovation Hub, Culver City’s first and only building to earn LEED-New Construction Platinum certification, has won the Los Angeles Business Journal’s Best Sustainable Development Gold Award, as one of Los Angeles’ “biggest best and most notable” commercial real estate projects of 2014.

Servicon is especially honored that the LABJ and its judges chose to recognize a building that we designed and constructed to meet the highest standards of sustainability,” said Servicon President and CEO Laurie Sewell. “Remarkably, the carbon footprint of the Mahdesian Learning Center & Client Innovation Hub is smaller than that of a Toyota Prius.”

The center, designed by Edward Ogosta, AIA, transformed the skeleton of an old, windowless warehouse into a strikingly modern, light-filled office, event and training facility. It takes advantage of the integrity of quality materials and L.A.’s abundant daylight to create a serene and healthy atmosphere. The new building demonstrates that, even at a modest scale, a full-building renovation with creative architecture and premier sustainability upgrades is achievable.

With a design inspired by airplane hangars, the “hangar office” functions as an innovative marketing tool for the company’s specialist services to aerospace companies and other forward-thinking industries, including science labs and clean rooms, healthcare, manufacturing, oil refineries and more. “The bright, exciting design communicates Servicon’s key values: a commitment to sustainable business practices with minimal environmental impact; a focus on continual growth and advancement of people, services, and new methodologies; and increased ROI through net cost savings as a result of sustainable practices, and a highly trained, efficient workforce,” noted Sewell.
The Mahdesian Learning Center & Client Innovation Hub provides flexible, new offices and training spaces and a laboratory for field- testing sustainable maintenance practices. It will also be home to the Servicon Academy and Servicon Certification program, an industry first, that trains a smart, engaged workforce for greater productivity. The building is also open for collaborative use by Servicon’s clients, partners and the community, for events, trainings, offsite meetings, and exciting, Tedx-style programs.
The Grand Opening of the new Mahdesian Learning Center & Client Innovation Hub will take place on March 5, 2015 at the site, 3965 Landmark Street, just a block from the new Culver City Expo Line station.
