ISSA Recognition for Performance Excellence Is Reflected in Servicon’s Award-Winning Mahdesian Learning Center, Culver City’s First LEED-NC Platinum Project
Servicon Systems Inc., a leading provider of sustainable custodial services for aerospace, military, commercial, public and institutional facilities, has been awarded several recent honors, including the International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA)’s Cleaning Industry Management Standard (CIMS) and Green-Building (GB) Criteria Certification.
CIMS is a top custodial industry designation that rates all aspects of businesses in the industry, including management structure, performance systems and processes. Winning CIMS certification demonstrates an organization delivers quality, customer-focused service. The CIMS standard is divided into six areas of management best practices: quality systems; service delivery; human resources; health, safety, and environmental stewardship; management commitment; and green building. The awarded accreditation culminates a rigorous process spanning many weeks in which a third-party auditor assessed Servicon through inspection, interviews and document review.
The tremendous efforts of its personnel earned Servicon excellent marks on all fronts. CIMS recognizes Servicon’s unusual commitment to the success of its employees. Servicon is pioneering true professional development in the industry with the training it provides through the Servicon Academy, an industry first, along with another first, the Servicon Certification Program that trains a smart, engaged workforce for greater productivity.
“Servicon’s success in meeting the rigorous criteria for CIMS certification is a welcome validation of our outstanding employees and of the superior quality of services that Servicon has delivered since 1973. Our excellent performance would not be possible without the highest level of employee engagement,” said Servicon President and CEO Laurie Sewell. “CIMS recognizes Servicon’s focus on our people and our systematic approaches to hiring, training, management and professional development that ensure our remarkably high rate of employee retention, and gives Servicon a competitive edge in our marketing, customer service, and growth efforts,” she added.
Additionally, the CIMS-GB criteria and designation recognize that Servicon provides its customers with the green services they need to secure points under the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)’s LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance (LEED EB: O&M).
“Contractor of the Year” Award
For the third time, Tennant, a leading global manufacturer of products and equipment, has named Servicon Systems Inc.’s Epoxy Flooring business as Contractor of the Year. The award recognizes Servicon in several categories: customer satisfaction, organic growth, purchasing, and ease of doing business. With zero product claims, Servicon ranked number one worldwide in the purchasing category.
"The Contractor of the Year" award is the most prestigious award in the epoxy flooring industry," said Rick Harrington, Servicon’s vice president, Epoxy Floor Division. “In Tennant’s random survey, 90 percent of Servicon clients reported their satisfaction with our services. And, reflecting our company’s rapid growth, Servicon increased its purchases of Tennant products by 140 percent over two years,” he added.
Honors to Mahdesian Center from the Los Angeles Business Journal
Servicon Systems Inc.’s cutting-edge Mahdesian Learning Center & Client Innovation Hub, Culver City’s first and only building to earn LEED-New Construction Platinum certification, has won the Los Angeles Business Journal’s Best Sustainable Development Gold Award, as one of Los Angeles’ “biggest best and most notable” commercial real estate projects of 2014.
The Mahdesian Learning Center fulfills the company’s vision of keeping everyone in the company at the leading edge of sustainability, innovation and customer service. The building, home to the Servicon Academy and its Certification Program, is also open for collaborative use by Servicon’s clients, partners and the community, for events, trainings, offsite meetings, and exciting, Tedx-style programs.
“We are excited to have earned this top award. Servicon is especially honored that the LABJ and its judges chose to recognize a building that we designed and constructed to meet the highest standards of sustainability,” said Sewell. “Remarkably, the carbon footprint of the Mahdesian Learning Center & Client Innovation Hub is smaller than that of a Toyota Prius.”
The center, designed by Edward Ogosta, AIA, transformed the skeleton of an old, windowless warehouse into a strikingly modern, light-filled office, event and training facility. The new building demonstrates that, even at a modest scale, a full-building renovation with creative architecture and premier sustainability upgrades is achievable. Its bright, exciting design communicates Servicon’s key values: a commitment to sustainable business practices with minimal environmental impact; a focus on continual growth and advancement of people, services, and new methodologies; and increased ROI through net cost savings as a result of sustainable practices, and a highly trained, efficient workforce.
Further Honors for the Mahdesian Center
Servicon’s Mahdesian Learning Center & Client Innovation Hub was a finalist in Interior Design magazine’s national competition. Additional recognition is in the pipeline for the pristine aesthetics and rigorous sustainability of the groundbreaking Culver City project.
